3D printing: internet or bread maker
Description
3D printing is HOT. In the media, one spectacular example follows another when it comes to groundbreaking application of this technology. Expectations for this technology are high; 3D printed trees are growing into the sky. Is this also realistic or is it just prompted by the new and unknown of this technology?
To be able to say anything meaningful about this, some knowledge of the 3D printing process is required. This lecture will tell a bit about that using examples. The possible technological/social impact will then be discussed. Will it have an impact similar to the internet or will it, like the home breadmaker, end up in a kitchen cupboard after a while. This part of the lecture lends itself particularly well to a lively discussion and I will provide you with the necessary ingredients for this
