Climate and economic growth, a contradiction?
With the big question in the background: Can an economic system exist without growth?
In his lecture, Bob van den Hoogen will address the following topics:
- Climate change, seriousness and urgency
- Tipping points in the climate system
- How much energy do we consume, is it a lot?
- Can we renewably generate all the energy we need?
- Fundamental causes of environmental problems
- Social aspects
o Why do large consumers get a discount
o Why not: The polluter cleans up instead of paying for emissions
o How do we organise our country - It can be done, but not everything can be done at once.
Bob van den Hoogen graduated as a mechanical engineer from the University of Delft in the Laboratory Apparatus for the Process Industry. Bob was a part-time professor at the University of Delft for several years.
From his involvement in environmental programmes came an interest in meteorology and the science behind the climate problem. To gain more knowledge in this field, he studied meteorology and climatology at the University of Utrecht.
Bob has written a booklet entitled 'Climate and Energy', and he gives lectures on this subject with some regularity.
The drinks will start at 18:00 and the meal will follow punctually at 19:00, after which the lecture can start at 20:00.
