Our circle member Michiel Schöller spent six months (as a water treatment specialist) at Sweden's NORTHVOLT helping to build Europe's by far largest lithium-ion battery plant. Shareholders include Volvo, Scania, BMW and Volkswagen. The initiative is supported by European and Swedish grants. The premium Li battery technology is super high-tech, and developed in-house at the laboratories in Stockholm.

The invested capital is/will be > €50 billion in total. About 5,000 people, about 150 nationalities, are currently working on this project. Giga Factories are being built in Skelleftea (northern Sweden), Gothenburg and Börlange (at Volvo and Scania), Gdansk (Poland), Heide (Germany) and Quebec (Canada).

The lecture will cover the following points, among others:

  • Operation;
  • Battery materials;
  • Properties of batteries;
  • Characterisation NORTHVOLT;
  • Li-ion Batteries Manufacturing Process;
  • Recycling;
  • Why the largest production site in Skelleftea, Lapland?
  • Water treatment aspects.

Drinks will start at 18:00 and the meal will follow punctually at 19:00, after which the lecture can start at 20:00. End around 22:00.
