From startup to leading Rotterdam design agency
In his talk, Robert Barnhoorn will discuss the development of Spark and how Spark comes to evolutionary and revolutionary innovation of professional products. Bringing fresh ideas that match user needs and technological capabilities, resulting in exciting concepts and industrialised products. Adding value to companies' product portfolios that fit their business case and brand values. Collaborate with clients and partners across Europe and the rest of the world.
They do this through integral conceptual thinking, outside-the-box vision, focus on lean and agile development. Spark is a product design agency that delivers meaningful innovation.a company with a long track record in design and innovation services for companies (startups, SMEs and corporates) with complex and challenging products.
How they, together with their clients, have been creating surprising and award-winning products for over 30 years is an item in the lecture. They believe in integral design. Creating the balance between design and function, between investment and cost, between lead time and technological innovation.
He gives us an exclusive look behind the scenes of this leading design agency and the topic of developing startups is also discussed.
Robert Barnhoorn designed the Carver.

After developing the Carver One, he got in touch with an inventor and the idea was born for a flying car based on the gyrocopter principle, see opposite.

This development and the development of the Carver One led to the development and establishment of PAL-V from Raamsdonkveer.
Spark was then directly involved in the development of the PAL-V One, pictured below, which first flew in 2012.
Among other things, we did this together with the developers of the Carver One and the Carver Earth.

Introduction
Ir Robert Barnhoorn graduated as an industrial designer from TU Delft in1990. He then started working at his graduation company Lopital Nederland bv in Oisterwijk. This was the basis for later specialisation with innovations for the medical and healthcare industry.
As head of product development, he privatised Lopital's development department in 1993 and hired his colleagues. He did this together with the early founders of what later became Carver. This became the foundation of Spark. Since then, with Robert as a partner, Spark has developed hundreds of products for clients and put them into production.
Robert has particular experience in the 'fuzzy frontside' of development projects. How to start a project with the right stakeholders. He is involved in Spark's various startups and ventures.
Drinks will start at 18:00 and the meal will follow punctually at 19:00, after which the lecture can start at 20:00. End around 22:00.
