People communicate with words, but think in images and models. We can devise and create structures that prove to work in practice, in reality. Engineers, in particular, are good at this.
The Industrial and Scientific Revolutions demonstrate that, by applying this approach, we as humans have an enormous influence on our environment.

One of the key factors for success is that whatever science devises is tested against reality. If this does not happen, the models used do not describe reality with sufficient accuracy. A model is never exact and is therefore always incomplete.
If we do not test our models against reality, we make decisions based on those incomplete models, which therefore do not lead to the truly desired outcome.

This lecture offers a number of practical tools to help identify, right from the communication phase of perception-forming, those aspects that contribute to better, collectively shared perceptions, or, conversely, to perceptions that polarise and foster hostility.

Arie Quik studied physics at Delft University of Technology. He worked in the private sector within the chemical process industry, spending several years as Head of Measurement and Control Technology, Electrical Installations and Automatic Analysers. He set up as an independent consultant and, for many years, guided international companies in defining their mission, vision, strategy and implementation to achieve their goals. Quik was and remains a ‘designer of solutions’ and ‘solutions pathways’, and has been trying for years to get the verb ‘voordenken’ included in the ‘Van Dale’ dictionary.

The drinks reception begins at 6.00 pm and the dinner follows promptly at 7.00 pm, after which the lecture can start at 8.00 pm. The event ends around 10.00 pm.
