For more than 40 years, Jan has been involved in feasibility studies, design and implementation of dry bulk terminals for grains, derivatives, ores, coal and fertiliser, among others. Dry bulk commodities have very diverse characteristics and therefore require different approaches with regard to storage and handling.

In this presentation, he will first discuss the history of dry bulk storage and transhipment in the port of Rotterdam and then go into various aspects such as type of ships, ship size, unloading and loading equipment, unloading and loading methods, storage options, prevention of dust emissions and dust explosions and will cover design choices. Finally, he will cover some of his bulk terminal projects.
