Wind power will never be able to make more than a negligible contribution to solving our energy and climate problems. If this already applies to the gross output reported by CBS, the net contribution is much smaller still.

Wind energy has serious effects on the living environment, especially in the form of noise pollution. This is certainly the case in the Netherlands, which is the only country with an annual average noise standard that encourages manipulation of noise production. As a result, the minimum distance from homes works out to be three times smaller than anywhere else in Western Europe. Last year, the Council of State could finally no longer deny that this standard was created in violation of EU law and declared it invalid. Since then, we have had no environmental rules and the construction of new wind farms is at a standstill.

The government is handing out very large amounts of community money to operators and landowners. This money is lost for (research into) sensible energy and climate measures such as energy conservation, safe nuclear power, storingCO2 in the ground.
