Mini-conference Predictive Maintenance & General Assembly 2023
21 September 2023 Minicongres Predictive maintenance 4.0 and ALV AM&M
Last Thursday, we were guests of almost 30 interested parties at the Dordrecht Academy, in the magnificent new Kopgebouw building with beautiful practical set-ups.
The afternoon started with a lecture by Arie Schaap on a proof of concept to use machine learning to prevent failures on Damen ships. In the first pilot, the propeller shaft was modelled. By attaching sensors to a scale arrangement of a propeller shaft, and then capturing point clouds of both normal behaviour and abnormal behaviour, a basis for the algorithms was laid. Currently, real-time measurements and analysis are being done on a ship. After a 3-month familiarisation period, the system can then identify anomalous parameters. With this, repairs can be scheduled before a malfunction occurs. The machine learning system is expanded each time new anomalies are found. The first time, the analysis then still has to be done by specialists, who are sent to the boats worldwide for service. The results are already very promising.

Next, Robbert-Jan 't Hoen gave us an explanation of the Associate Degree (Ad) course in Engineering. This is a programme designed to fill the gap between MBO level 4 and HBO level 6. This programme can be followed both part-time and full-time. The teaching material has been carefully chosen in coordination with the business community, so that the students who graduate can find a good match with the needs of the labour market. The programme consists of half-year blocks: Orientation with basic maths and physics, Energy Transition, Mechatronics and Structural Design. Maintenance can be chosen as an additional half-year subject. At the moment, progression to HBO/Bachelor Mechanical Engineering is possible after that. Depending on future developments, more transfer opportunities may be added. More information can be found on the Dordrecht Academy website: www.dordrechtacademy.nl

Finally, Robbert-Jan showed us the practicals rooms. In these rooms, students have the opportunity to link theory and practice using modern techniques.

Among the interested attendees were also (former) teachers. People were very impressed by the practical classrooms and indicated that they would almost like to go back to school themselves.
Meanwhile, it was already past six in the evening and the catering had prepared a delicious hot buffet and salads. While enjoying a snack and a drink, acquaintances and knowledge were exchanged and we were even offered a visit to the Maas Tunnel (thanks in advance to the municipality of Rotterdam) as a new activity. In short, we as a department found this a very successful meeting.
The ALV was held with a number of attendees and the board members of the AM & Maintenance department. At this, besides discussing finances and activities, two new board members were elected. We are very pleased to announce, that Arwen Matthijssen and Martijn de Ruijter are joining our board.
The sheets of the presentation can be found under 'Documents'
On 21 September 2023, KIVI Asset Management & Maintenance is organising a mini-conference on predictive maintenance followed by its annual AGM. This time, we welcome you to the Dordrecht Academy.
Minicongress
In the afternoon, we have a speaker from Damen, who will talk about the experiences with applying predictive maintenance to propeller shafts for ships. Then we will get a look behind the scenes at the Dordrecht Academy, where an Ad course in Engineering is provided with a specialisation in maintenance. We then walk around the practical classrooms.
During a hot meal, there will be an opportunity to catch up and network.
ALV
During the ALV (also open to non-members), we will take you through our plans for the coming period, report on the finances and introduce at least one new board member. Any opposing candidates can still register at maintenance@kivi.nl until 2 weeks before the ALV . You are also always welcome to help us organise an activity without joining the board.
