A2 Maastricht - The Green Carpet
Description
The assignment is a plan for city and motorway, The Green Carpet.
The following objectives were made:
Improved accessibility of Maastricht and traffic flow on the A2
Promotion of traffic safety and quality of life in surrounding neighbourhoods
New opportunities for A2 neighbourhoods through urban renewal and removal of barriers.
The traffic dives into the stacked tunnel in front of Maastricht, with two sets of tunnel tubes: local traffic in the upper tunnel tubes and through traffic in the lower tunnel tubes. Above ground, the site of the old motorway will be occupied by a 'green carpet' for local traffic, cyclists, pedestrians, housing and shops.
The plan will ensure good accessibility of Maastricht, traffic flow on the A2 at the Geusselt interchange and Europaplein, and new opportunities for the development of the adjoining neighbourhoods through, among other things, improved traffic safety and livability of Maastricht East
