Cable replacement Tuibridge
Description
Lunch lecture by Arup on the cable replacement of the bridge over the Ewijk River. Free lunch!
The Tacitus Bridge is a steel tubular girder cable-stayed bridge spanning the river Waal at Ewijk. Rijkswaterstaat ordered road widening and renovation to extend the life of the existing bridge by 30 years.
A second bridge was built next to the existing Tacitus Bridge. This increased the number of lanes from 2x2 to 2x4 lanes. This also allowed traffic to be diverted during the renovation work on the existing bridge. It also allowed the cables of the old bridge to be replaced.
Arup is responsible for the complete assessment of the existing bridge. They also designed the renovation works and realised the feasibility for cable replacement. In addition, we drafted contract documents, tendered the project and Arup is providing construction supervision
