Chioggia Flood Barrier
Description
On Tuesday 25 November, Peter van Westendorp of Strukton will give a lunchtime lecture. This will be about sinking caissons near Venice. Here, Strukton is working on the construction of the Chioggia Flood Barrier, part of a storm surge barrier to close off the Venice lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. The flood barrier consists of a system of caissons on which movable barriers are placed, which can be closed at high tide. Strukton is responsible for the engineering and execution of the transport and immersion of eight concrete caissons. This project is being carried out by Strukton Immersion Projects. Strukton Immersion Projects is a division of Strukton that specialises in tunnel immersion techniques. Another project they have done, for example, is the tunnel (immersion tunnel) under the IJ in Amsterdam for the North/South line.
Peter van Westendorp will mainly talk about the technical aspects of this beautiful project.
The lunch lecture will take place on 25 November from 12:45 to 13:30 in the De Horst building on the Enschede Campus. The exact venue will be emailed and lunch will be provided.
