Construction of railway bridges and flyover
Description
Railways are becoming increasingly crowded. The Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management has therefore identified a number of bottlenecks in the railway network in which investments must be made to make it future-proof. One of these bottlenecks is the railway in and around 's-Hertogenbosch. To solve this bottleneck, a fly-over will be built on the north side of the railway yard across the Dieze river, so that train traffic from Nijmegen will cross with trains to and from Utrecht at a level crossing. A new low-level railway bridge towards Nijmegen over the Dieze will also be added. The existing railway bridges will also be replaced by concrete ones. These will then only be used for train traffic to and from Utrecht. Much attention in the design has been paid to the design, The bridges will be a striking appearance for the entrance to 's-Hertogenbosch. When the project is completed, trains from 's-Hertogenbosch towards Nijmegen and towards Utrecht v.v. will each use their own track. The design and construction has been awarded to Heijmans, partly due to a smart execution method on which its bid was judged the most economical. They are giving us the opportunity to get further acquainted with the construction project. The afternoon will start with a number of presentations explaining why this project is necessary, how the work will be carried out (train traffic must be maintained as much as possible) and lastly, the structural engineer from the engineering firm Brein will elaborate on the construction. The afternoon will end with a visit to the construction site
