Drought monitoring
On Wednesday 22 May 14:00 to 17:00, the Dike Monitoring Network is organising a workshop on Drought Monitoring. The workshop will take place at TU Delft. KIVI members are cordially invited.
Workshop content:
Climate change is an increasingly important topic that we also have to deal with more and more in the water safety sector. Monitoring can give us insight into the impact of climate on flood defences.
This workshop will deal with the monitoring of drought-prone regional flood defences. The workshop will feature at least the following speakers:
- Bart Strijker started the Drought Monitor project in 2020. This involved installing monitoring wells and moisture sensors at 10 different embankments to gain insight into annual hydraulic variations. Three years of data have now been collected. Bart will tell us more about it.
- Inge de Wolf started researching the geotechnical deepening of this data in 2021: a translation to macro stability. For this, she has also recently installed additional ground investigation & monitoring equipment. Inge will take us through the approach of her project: what is the monitoring focused on and how is it designed?
- Stefan Loosen of the Schieland and Krimpenerwaard Water Board will give an insight into drought inspections carried out on dykes during dry periods.
