Geosynthetics and dredge-filled tubes
Description
Geosynthetics and dredge-filled tubes in hydraulic engineering
On 10 December next, CUR Bouw & Infra, together with KIVI NIRIA Bouw- en Waterbouwkunde, KIVI NIRIA Geotechniek and the NGO, is organising an afternoon at TU Delft where two new CUR publications will be presented.

In recent years, CUR Bouw & Infra has collected all available knowledge and experience and recorded it in two publications:
- "Geosynthetics in hydraulic engineering"
The original version of this publication appeared in 1995 under the title 'Geotextiles in Hydraulic Engineering'. Since that time, much knowledge and experience has been gained, both practically and theoretically. In addition to developments in the context of CEN/ISO standardisation, the past few years in particular have seen the further crystallisation of insights relating to design philosophy and implementation. All these aspects prompted a completely revised edition.
Because nowadays the generic name geosynthetics is usually used instead of the designation geotextiles, it was decided to change the title of this revised edition to "Geosynthetics in hydraulic engineering".
The handbook is intended for the hydraulic designer without a specialist background in the field of geosynthetics.
Presentations will focus on areas of application, implementation aspects and design approaches.
- "High-quality construction with dredge spoil in geotextile tubes"
During the period when two CUR publications were developed and published (214 "Geotextile sand elements" and 217 "Designing with geotextile sand elements"), an innovative flood defence consisting of geotextile tubes filled with dredge spoil was devised. This concept elicited positive reactions in the market. Reason enough for CUR to conduct further research into its application in regional and primary flood defences. The results of the study look promising and will be presented
