All-weather technology
Description
Wind technology is the engineering science that deals with questions about wind effects and possible damage, nuisance or, on the contrary, benefits of wind. Some of the topics that wind technology deals with are:
- Wind loads on structures, such as buildings, bridges and masts;
- Wind nuisance around buildings;
- Effects of wind on ventilation systems in buildings;
- Wind climate for wind energy generation;
- Air pollution near buildings.
Wind technology cannot do without the knowledge of meteorology. To promote knowledge exchange between these two disciplines, we are organising a symposium together with the Dutch Association for the Advancement of Meteorology (NVBM). Members of this association are (have been) meteorological professionals in university, weather chamber, research & development, industry, management and climate research. The symposium is about short-term and long-term wind forecasts and how they are used in wind technology.
