Invitation to the Delta Brainstorm
The KIVI Department of Hydraulic Engineering cordially invites you to the Delta Brainstorm on 3 December. During this inspiring session, we will discuss with experts crucial issues concerning the future of our Dutch delta. It will focus on the lines of thought from the Sea Level Rise Knowledge Programme: Protect, Seaward and Move Along.
During this evening, Jos van Alphen (advisor staff Delta Commissioner) will take us through these schools of thought, after which we will brainstorm and discuss the following themes:
- Protect (open/closed): How can we further strengthen our existing measures such as dykes, sand suppletions and water pumps to protect the Netherlands from rising sea levels?
- Seaward: What opportunities do we see to use space at sea, e.g. by building new islands or other structures, to solve problems such as high water in rivers?
- Moving along: How can we adapt our land use and buildings to give water more space, e.g. by allowing areas to flood temporarily or by building water-resistant buildings?
We will invite a talented illustrator to create an illustration during the discussion points. This drawing will visually represent the essence of our brainstorming session.
