Description

The Beatrix Lock in Nieuwegein is to be renovated! Heijmans will upgrade the monumental lock complex by building a third lock chamber on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat. Over a four-year period, Heijmans will first construct a third lock chamber and then completely renovate the existing two lock chambers for a total contract sum of €150 million.

The contract was set out to allow more large ships to pass through the lock in the future. Heijmans realised a design in which the monumental locks would remain visible after the realisation of the third colk. The new lock has a length of almost 300m, allowing two large ships to pass through at the same time.

On Wednesday 8 February, Heijmans will give a lecture on, among other things, the design process and its implementation.
