Description

Utrecht's new municipal offices will soon be built on the west side of Utrecht CS station. The council offices will be the central point of access to almost all municipal services and products.
This building will be 70 to 90 metres high, will have a surface area of 64,000 m² and is situated at an unusual but highly complex location: halfway above the busiest railway station in the Netherlands. The large size calls for an 'urban ecology' where any type of large spans and the many voids that characterise the building. The building consists of a North and South Tower, with the latter
situated above the new bus and public transport terminal to be built. The floor fields between the two office towers are formed by steel trusses. The cores in the South Tower are made of steel and, with the trusses and braces in the facade, provide stability for this part of the building. The interior of Utrecht City Office is designed for a modern office concept with flexible, personalised workstations. Construction started in April 2011, completion is scheduled for 2014
