Description

In central Brabant, the N261 is 'the' connection between the A59 (Maasroute) and the A58 ( heading west) and the A65 and A58 ( heading east) at Tilburg via the N261 west (Burg.Letcherweg) and N261 east (Burg. Bechtweg) , respectively. The N261 is also the most important connection for Efteling visitors.

The N261 was built in the 1980s and no longer meets current requirements. A poorer traffic flow and accidents, especially in the form of rear-end collisions at the level crossings, make reconstruction necessary.
To improve road safety, traffic flow and the environment, the N261 will be reconstructed. BAM is carrying out this work on behalf of the Province of North Brabant.

The N261 will be converted into a road with flyovers, 2 x 2 lanes, emergency lanes and a bus lane for the Prof. Kamerlingh Onnesweg section at Waalwijk and Tilburg. The entire N261 will be subject to a maximum speed limit of 100 km/h.
The junctions with the A59, the Prof. Kamerlingh Onnesweg at Waalwijk, the Bevrijdingsweg and Europalaan at Kaatsheuvel and the new junction at Loon op Zand will be flyunders. The new flyover junction Loon op Zand will be on the south side of the town centre with a bus connection. On the northern side of Loon op Zand, an ecoduct will be built to link the Loonse and Drunense Dunes with the Huis ter Heide estate.
Bicycle connections will be provided at the junctions of the A59 and the Prof. Kamerlingh Onnesweg.
