Description

An increasing challenge for Dutch governments is to make the right trade-offs with regard to the (re)allocation of scarce green space in urbanised areas such as the Randstad.

The Landscape Tunnels Symposium will address four key themes that play a role within these decision-making processes:
- What is the (experiential) value of the landscape?
- How should the value of landscape and underground space be included in cost-benefit analyses?
- How are the best available processes and techniques included in policy considerations?
- What are actually the state-of-the-art techniques for making landscape tunnels?

These four themes will be fleshed out on 8 October, including through eight workshops highlighting concrete example projects.

The programme will conclude with a
discussion between participants and a forum of administrators, policymakers and decision-makers.

The final objective is to arrive at a vision document for landscape tunnels in
policy considerations:
In what situation do the growing technical possibilities of tunnelling offer the right solution to preserve the green landscape in urbanised areas?

The organisation of this symposium is a collaboration between Hogeschool Rotterdam, Deltares, Gemeentewerken Rotterdam, TU Delft, Netherlands Knowledge Centre for Underground Construction and Underground Space Usage (COB), Kivi Niria and Midden-Delfland Association. Further cooperation is provided by, Strukton and Volker Wessels.
