The Green Carpet for A2 Maastricht
Description
Maastricht is currently hard at work adapting the A2 motorway. The "Green Carpet" plan will improve Maastricht's accessibility and traffic flow on the A2 as well as traffic safety and quality of life.
The backbone of the plan is:
- a stacked tunnel, which will take 80% of the current traffic underground and create a residential environment above ground;
- a green, recreational ribbon for cyclists and pedestrians on the northern side of Maastricht.
- two prominent and recognisable city entrances.
The Green Carpet for A2 Maastricht is being realised by Avenue2. Avenue2 consists of Strukton and Ballast Nedam.
The client is Projectbureau A2 Maastricht. This consists of Rijkswaterstaat, Province of Limburg, Municipality of Maastricht and Municipality of Meerssen
In the spring of 2011, we had already heard about the plans for the Groene Loper during an extensive lecture. This time we were received at the information centre in Maastricht, where we had the opportunity to hear all about the development of the plans and the work in progress. This will certainly include a focus on the technical aspects of the work, including the stacked tunnel. From the infocentre, we will have the opportunity to view the work on site.
