Water Construction Day 2015
On Tuesday 10 November, the Hydraulic Engineering Day 2015 was another great success with over 700 participants. The trick is to connect hydraulic engineering knowledge with new insights, such as integrating hydraulic engineering projects into their surroundings. From different perspectives, a wide variety of presentations approached this theme.
Description
This annual event provides an overview of the latest developments and new projects. For hydraulic engineers from the Netherlands and Belgium, it is an opportunity to meet fellow professionals.
WATERBOUW: KUNST OR KUNDE?
This year's theme is: 'Hydraulic engineering; art or skill?'. A theme that, according to chairman of the day Han Vrijling, has everything to do with the fact that in the course of time, purely functional architecture evolves into architecture: "The map of Amsterdam, with its semi-circular system of canals, looks more like a work of art than a simple and cheap residential area that follows the course of the water. Not water, but beauty as the guiding principle".

As a participant, you will have a wide choice when putting together your programme for the day. There are six parallel sessions covering projects such as storm surge barriers, dyke reinforcements and the new lock in IJmuiden. The impact of earthquakes on flood defences is also on the programme. During the College Tour, young hydraulic engineers and students will have the opportunity to question some experienced professionals about their profession.
An additional part of this year's Hydraulic Engineering Day is the presentation of the Agema Prize. This prize is awarded once every five years to realised innovative hydraulic engineering projects. At the Hydraulic Engineering Day 2015, the prize will be awarded to an innovative Hydraulic Engineering Work realised in the period 2010 - 2015. Applications can be submitted until 1 October 2015.
