Reflection on our sector (Annemieke Nijhof)
Annemieke Nijhof has been general director of Deltares since October. She has extensive experience in both government and industry. As Director-General of Water at the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (now Infrastructure and Water), she was responsible for water policy in the Netherlands. She then worked in the business world as CEO of consultancy and engineering firm Tauw. She is currently figurehead Top Sector Water & Maritime and chairman of the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP).

With her broad view of our sector, she will address the future of hydraulic engineering in the new reality we are facing. What will hydraulic engineering look like in the near future? It promises to be an interesting general reflection on our profession!

New Lock Terneuzen (Wilbur van Beijnen and Wim DeCock)
The New Lock will provide better access and smoother flow from the Westerschelde to the Ghent Canal to Terneuzen and beyond. With the arrival of the New Lock, larger seagoing vessels will be able to sail up to Ghent port through the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. In 2023, the first vessel will sail through the New Lock. The Flemish-Dutch Scheldt Commission is the client and contractor combination Sassevaart is building the New Lock.

During this presentation on Terneuzen Lock, there will be a discussion on the progress of the construction of New Lock Terneuzen, and in particular on the construction pit and the construction of the lock gates.

Hydraulic Engineering Award 2020
Following this, the Hydraulic Engineering Award 2020 will be presented. Every year, the Association of Hydraulic Engineers gives students graduating from HBO or Technical University in hydraulic engineering (or related disciplines) the opportunity to submit their graduation project for the annual Hydraulic Engineering Prize. Who will win this prestigious prize this year?
