Biometrics in the Volvo Ocean Race
Biometrics and Top Sport
Team AkzoNobel engaged SAP to better prepare the team for the 2017-2018 Volvo Ocean Race campaign and maximise the sailors' performance. Using SAP Leonardo technologies (Internet of Things, Machine Learning), AkzoNobel monitored the fitness levels and exhaustion of the crew members. Based on the biometric data (/algorithms) collected, the team was able to optimise performance.

In this lecture, you will get an insight into:
- the extreme challenges of the Volvo Ocean Race
- the complicating factors for successful innovation in these extreme conditions
- the complicating factors for successful innovation within large companies (/corporates)
- some physiological aspects of (top) sport: HRV (Heart Rate Variability), biometrics
- the 'trial and error' achieved technical solution
- the 'human factor': experiences with change management in top-class sport
- findings and results
- the journey made by AkzoNobel and SAP
