ReShoring Manufacturing
Description
On Thursday 19 January, KIVI Business-South held its second symposium around the theme ReShoring Manufacturing. The approximately 150 attendees followed the four presentations by speakers working in science, as manufacturers, at a research institute and at the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The presentations ended with a lively and engaged forum discussion with firm statements. One of the conclusions was that successful ReShoring of the Manufacturing Industry requires more than just bringing the earlier manufacturing assets back to the Netherlands. ReShoring usually requires a drastic redirection of processes. Among other things, the introduction of TQM, the use of social programmes, automation or robotisation and QRM were mentioned as conditions for success. Promises were made to back this up with excursions.
For the most convincing are the now sparse practical examples.
TQM was demonstrated at Omron.
Deployment of people with a distance to the labour market will be discussed at Ferro-Fix on 18 May.
A guest company has yet to be found for robotisation; tips are welcome.
A practical example of Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) as a prerequisite for ReShoring is provided by fireplace manufacturer Interfocos. Because academically talking about it is one thing, doing it is another. For a couple of years, Interfocos has been working on the conditions to bring back and keep its production to the Netherlands. To this end, it has put heavy emphasis on "QRM".
Interfocos in Bladel is so successful in this, that it currently produces very competitively compared to the previous production in the Czech Republic. An appealing example of successful ReShoring!
During this visit, the Operations Manager will explain how they have been able to get this far and that although a low cost price is important, it is not the only decisive factor in production in Bladel. Many additional benefits are achieved on quality, flexibility, controllability, time to market, asset utilisation and last but not least through the involvement and responsibility of individual employees. Interfocos shows that ReShoring and preservation of Dutch Manufacturing Industry is not only possible, but also a "must" because of quality and flexibility.
Young Manager convince yourself, and let yourself be informed how Interfocos has managed ReShoring with the introduction of consistent and coherent QRM policy.
Check the statement: "Flight into OffShoring of Manufacturing Industry is usually a sign of incompetence!"
And.....KIVI member remember: Without Manufacturing, no engineers!
