KIVI is regularly asked why, as a professional with a substantial education behind him, you should also go for an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer title.

From the Chartered Engineering department, we argue that

Chartered Engineering is a quality brand for top engineers.

During this afternoon lecture, we therefore highlighted the various perspectives. The perspective from the association, the engineer and the employer.
In addition, we would like to introduce you to the synergy that has arisen between the Constructors' Register and KIVI Chartered Engineering. Two perspectives, both the same dot on the horizon: quality of people.

The Chartered Engineering board looks back on this meeting with a good feeling. Nevertheless, there may of course always be questions that remain unanswered. If so, please send an e-mail to chartered@kivi.nl.

You can here download the presentation.
The presentation is here here.

Below you will find the questions asked and their answers as asked in the chat. In addition, the link to the presentation and to the recording of the meeting. Unfortunately, the first three minutes of the recording are missing.

I can also imagine that, as a result of this meeting, you would like to see a conversation between your company's HR officer and KIVI about the possibilities of rolling out this route in your company. Please let us know that too, and we will simply schedule it.

  • Do you also have to complete CE within a certain period?
There is no agreed period for this. We see that the average turnaround time for completing the portfolio is a year, however, there are also candidates who manage it in a month. A portfolio consists of 18 questions. This is followed by a Professional Review Interview (PRI), which takes 90 minutes. Once that is completed, the examination committee will give a decision within two months.
  • Does using the CE title have an impact on personal liability in the Netherlands or abroad (as is the case for Professional Engineer in Singapore)?
Holding the CE title of KIVI has no impact on personal liability. Dutch law holds the contracted party, the company or the ZZP-er, liable in accordance with the contract. This is therefore independent of the titles held by that person. If you are working abroad, the contracts entered into and the laws as they apply in that country naturally apply.
  • It seems a good idea to sit around the table in the 4 TU context for further upscaling and training provision (e.g. 4 TU)
The board takes this suggestion to heart. Rob Mudde, main board member of KIVI is the Vice-Chancellor/Vice-President Education in the Executive Board of TU Delft. So the lines of communication are quite short.
  • Is it possible to register collectively with several engineers for the CE? E.g. through a similar organisation ? Is mainly for NL engineers abroad NL trained engineers
This is certainly possible and there are already several employers who have embarked on this path. To be clear, each individual engineer would then of course have to complete his personal pathway.
  • Is it desirable that Chartered Engineers are also employed by clients? From an expert commissioning perspective?
    This is certainly desirable.
  • At what level is the PMSE degree graded?
The internationally recognised title PMSE stands for "Professional Master of Structural Engineering". It is officially originated/recognised by TU-Delft as a master's title. The PMSE title distinguishes itself from the normal master title by the addition of experience tested by means of a "master's thesis".
In the process, a member with this title will be accepted as a CEng candidate.
