KIVI cordially invites you to an inspiring, fun and festive gathering on 30 June that will be dedicated to the inauguration of Prof Aad van der Horst as Fellow Chartered Engineer.

The title Fellow Chartered Engineer is awarded once every two years to a leading engineer who is not only at the forefront of his or her field and possesses all the professional competences of a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer to a high degree, but who also makes an exceptional case for the growth of Chartered and Incorporated Engineering in the Netherlands and the 'lifelong learning' that is central to it. Aad van der Horst becomes the third Fellow Chartered Engineer at KIVI, following Jon Prichard and Edward Heerema.

Prof Aad van der Horst is originally a Civil Engineer and studied at TU Delft. In 2016, he received the Royal Decoration, Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau, on his retirement as Statutory Director of BAM Infraconsult (where he has since remained part-time as Technical Director). In 2017, he received the Medal of Merit from FIB, (International Federation for Structural Concrete), for his contributions to both committees and publications of FIB.He has been a part-time Professor (now emeritus) in Construction Technology of Civil Engineering Structures at TU Delft since 2006 and has over 45 years of working experience as Project Leader and Lead Engineer around the world and dozens of publications to his credit. He has been involved in a large number of leading infrastructure projects, such as, in the Netherlands, the Oosterscheldekering, the Second Maasvlakte, the Waalbrug near Nijmegen, the bridge over the Hartelkanaal, the HSL waste tunnels and the Botlekspoortunnel. Together with colleagues, he also built BAM Infraconsult from 70 employees to an internationally renowned firm of 400 employees with offices in Panama, Dubai, Jakarta, Singapore and Perth. His work has been of great importance to the construction industry and Royal BAM Group. He also lectured at the UNESCO Institute of Hydraulic Engineering for the benefit of young engineers from developing countries and held various (voluntary) positions, whether or not related to his work. All his activities, both professional and social, benefit society. As an engineer and professor, he has been able to connect societal and academic values, bridging the gap between science and practice. He is also an active member of a dozen associations, including KIVI, and international committees.

Aad van der Horst became a Chartered Engineer at KIVI in 2018. Since then, he has championed Chartered and Incorporated Engineering in the Netherlands and lifelong learning. Because of his exemplary role for engineers in business and education and his driving role in Chartered and Incorporated Engineering, KIVI awards him the honorary title Fellow Chartered Engineer.

We cordially invite you to this meeting around an exceptional, and above all accessible, personality, in which you will not only hear his story, but can also participate in a good conversation with him during a meet-and-greet.
