Podcasts Chartered Engineering

KIVI has created five podcasts to clarify the title Chartered Engineer/Incorporated Engineer, give an idea of how to achieve the title and its value. In the podcasts, Chartered Engineers from different fields and backgrounds tell from their own experience.

Bright about Technology: Fellow Chartered Engineer Jan van der Tempel

Jan van der Tempel, CEO of Ampelmann and recently appointed Fellow Chartered Engineer, is our guest in this episode of the podcast. He takes us through his career, the key moments in it and his appointment as Fellow Chartered Engineer. Van der Tempel has dedicated his entire career to the offshore industry, from project engineer to lecturer and innovator at TU Delft. There, he conceived and developed the successful Ampelmann system. The Fellow Chartered Engineer (FCEng) is the highest and most prestigious professional award KIVI can bestow on an engineer.

Episode 6: Erik Oostwegel

Erik Oostwegel (CCO of Haskoning) is one of the instigators of the promotion of Chartered Engineering in the Netherlands. He describes the added value of Chartered Engineering in giving structure to engineers' learning and personal development. A great tool for employers.

Episode 5: Jos van Dam & Jelmer Jacobs of TWD

Jos and Jelmer have now both obtained their Chartered Engineering certification. For them, the framework, the structure that Chartered Engineering provides in your development is important. They use that in their business. They find that a Chartered Engineering title is really a must in the UK and Australia. By training their staff, they can go all over the world.

Episode 4: Adrian Aparaschivei

Adrian is originally from Romania but moved to the Netherlands and started his own startup here called Apara. Adrian thinks the big plus of Chartered Engineering is that you get recognition of your experience, what you can do, for example your leadership skills. Moreover, it has brought him into contact with a lot of people, which is an advantage for him as an entrepreneur. People with the title CE show that they are working on their personal and professional development, and as an employer you take that into account when assessing people. Adrian also mentors CE candidates from the charterership committee. What is important in this regard?

Episode 3: Navin Sewberath Miss

Navin works at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences as the Engineering programme manager where he is the point of contact for many students and teachers. Chartered/Incorporated Engineering is also about learning. Continuous learning. And being able to demonstrate that. After all, after graduation, you don't stand still....

Episode 2: Rinze Geertsma

Rinze is a lecturer at the Netherlands Defence Academy in Den Helder, which he talks about in a fascinating way, as well as being on the board of the charter ship committee, where he is in charge of guiding the chartership candidates. He gives some interesting examples of questions the candidates might be asked. He also paints a picture of the international recognition of the title.

Episode 1: Frank de Ruiter

Frank is Managing Director at INTAMIN, which sells attractions to theme parks, and obtained his certificate in 2017. He explains what Chartered Engineering entails and its value to him and INTAMIN.

What is the Chartership?

The Chartership provides a structure for professional development and knowledge exchange between different fields and disciplines of engineers. Key concepts are reflective learning, peer review, vision development, knowledge, skills and experience.

Certificate and CEng or IEng title

The newly Chartered or Incorporated Engineer will be included in KIVI's Chartered Engineer Register. He/she receives a certificate recognising their achievements and may use the professional and internationally recognised title CEng or IEng.

All Chartered and Incorporated Engineers candidates are assigned a mentor and guided by our dedicated Chartership team to help and advise at all stages of the Chartership process.
