Thinking differently, daring to act with results
On Monday evening 2 March, Dirk de Boe of Creashock gave an engaging workshop on creative thinking.
The workshop was attended by 16 people from different backgrounds. Location was the Black Box on the TU/e grounds. Walk-in was from 5pm. Despite a mistake by someone in passing on the catering, we were still able to enjoy a well-prepared bread meal although it was a bit later than planned. Thanks to the staff of the Black Box!
Dirk De Boe is an electro-mechanical engineer and worked for Philips for many years. At a certain point, he found that the knowledge and skills he had learned at school and in the company were no longer enough to make a difference in a competitive market. He learned to think creatively and then set up several successful innovation programmes at Philips. He is author of the book Creashockhttp://www.creashock.be/creashock-boek.html and helps organisations and people to think creatively. That Dirk is a practitioner was therefore definitely noticeable in the workshop.
The topics covered included:
- where does your creativity come from and how can you stimulate it positively
- how to break free from patterns and habits
- how to deal with challenges and changes in a positive way
- how to come up with and realise more and better ideas yourself and together with others.
Simple assignments then got us thinking, for instance by giving "wrong answers" to questions. It then turns out that people are stuck to patterns after all. After the presentation, there was a pleasant networking drink in bar of the venue "the Black Box". The board of the Department of Commercial Engineering thanks the participants for attending the lecture and, of course, Dirk de Boe for enthusiastically hosting the workshop.
