RoboCup 2013 has been a success. After the victory of the TU/e robot - football team at the 2012 RoboCup world championship, it was the university's turn to host the 2013 championship in Eindhoven. On Sunday the 30th, we had to watch the team narrowly, by one goal, cede its title to the Chinese team that certainly deserved to win.

The week-long event, held at the Gender Valley sports complex in Eindhoven, attracted tens of thousands of visitors. Admission was free, but got you into the stands and into the huge halls with a forest of stands without much prior knowledge.

As a sponsor of the event, the company MathWorks had a quota of seats for the VIP tours, tours where you were shown around by the expert insiders of robotics. In contact with the South Region Section, the company made as many as 75 places available to KIVI NIRIA members. Despite it being a short day for announcement purposes, all places were taken and 75 participants from KIVI NIRIA were able to learn extensively about the state of robotics in practice. With also the other relations of MathWorks, who come from many disciplines and companies and participated in the VIP tours, new contact also developed out of common interests and concerns.

The VIP tours were arranged so that between the participating teams, we got to taste the real work in the field where the tour guides also explained to us on their squats next to the robots their various workings. How the robots can perform their movements, how they can perceive events in their environment and how they communicate among themselves. And not just the football robots, also the robot - rescue workers, home helpers, support workers for people with disabilities and logistics robots. All criss-crossed the show. A very successful opportunity for our members to experience this event.

Robotics and artificial intelligence have an important place in society. To be found in complex equipment in industry and the medical world but also in products that everyone uses every day.

Since 1997, scientists from around the world have come together annually in a symposium to exchange new knowledge and then test it in practice with students from colleges and universities in a competition of robots: the RoboCup 2013 event. This year's robot world championships will be organised by last year's middle-sized league winner in Mexico: TU Eindhoven's Tech United team.

In the midst of this event, we can experience a VIP - tour, a tour of all the phenomena of robotics accompanied by an expert scientist who will let us look behind the scenes and update us on the state of the art and prospects in the field. We hear about the challenging questions to technology, control and required human interfaces and see the ultimate test that the event puts to robotics.

New ideas from theory and practice from an interdisciplinary global field of 2,800 participating scientists will be tested with robots, which will be deployed fully autonomously for this purpose as players in football teams, as dancers in ballets, disaster relief workers or caregivers in the home. The event will feature a real football world competition in which the robot - team that incorporates the best solutions for control, agility, coordination and interaction will win the tournament.

After concluding your VIP - tour, you will be a guest in MathWorks' workshop area where you can watch the various demos of their hardware and software. You can end the visit afterwards with a seat reserved for you in the stands to watch one of the games.

MathWorks has offered seats for KIVINIRIA in the exclusive tours, the VIP - tours done from Wednesday to Sunday.

Please register at all times when you would like and are able to participate. You will then be scheduled on the day where space is available and will be informed in good time.

15 per tour. (please register for all times you can participate)
