Brief report of the excursion on 12 November

Their project of 150 houses is part of a neighbourhood (Buurtschap te Veld on Castiliëlaan in Eindhoven) with 700 houses on a site made available by the municipality for 30 years for construction for mainly social housing (80%). They are therefore small 1 or 2 slkr 55m2 homes.

The houses are built with modules based on a hybrid system of CLT and timber frame construction, finished with Larix slats. So they are also 'moveable' homes. After an introduction by Bardo Mutsaers the owner of Qyuubs as well as the contractor of the project, some questions were answered and everyone was introduced. However, Qyuubs does not produce the modules itself. He also explained that he prefers good quality and often has to convince clients to include that in the project. He assumes that their system is 10% cheaper than traditional construction at larger quantities. During the subsequent walk around the construction site, many more questions were answered. The houses are heated and cooled using air-to-air heat pumps in combination with WTW ventilation. There are also some electric radiators for when needed on very cold days. It also uses mostly 6 PV panels.

We thank Mr Mutsaers and Emma Vereijken for their time and hospitality.
