Description

FIRST Rotterdam is a 128-metre-high office building on the Weena directly opposite Central Station.
The building consists of a low-rise section (35m high) topped by a high-rise tower of up to 128m. The design of the office floors is characterised by an open and flexible layout. This is made possible by concentrating the structure in the tower core and load-bearing facades. Wide floor areas (12m) are kept free of structural elements and provide freely divisible working areas. The design and materialisation of the facades refer to the architecture of the Groothandels building opposite. The prefabricated façade elements are clad in natural stone and composite concrete. The façade of the tower is characterised by tall vertical windows recessed between narrow natural stone ribs. All parts of the design were developed in accordance with the latest sustainability insights and have a BREEAM classification of 'excellent'.
FIRST Rotterdam is the seventh tallest building in Rotterdam. It was designed by Branimir Medic of de Architekten Cie.
To enable the construction of FIRST Rotterdam, the 1955-1956 extension of the Bouwcentrum on the Weena by architect J.W.C. Boks was demolished. The brick sculpture by English artist Henry Moore called Wall Relief no. 1, in the façade of the demolished building, was reinstalled in the new building
