Description

The board of vakafdeling bouw has the great pleasure to offer the following special excursion, with thanks to efforts of Bouwfonds MAB. In Frankfurt, we will be able to view the Frankfurt Hochvier shopping centre. This is a unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes in this bustling metropolis, at the pre-delivery stage in the development of the city centre. There is only room for 20 to 30 people, so register quickly.

Other attractions: Frankfurt is known for its book fair (www.buchmesse.de), Goethe's birthplace and as an international business centre because of the German Stock Exchange, the Bundesbank and the European Central Bank, among others. Culturally, there is plenty to experience, for example at the Museumsufer. Worth mentioning is the Museum of Architektur (www.dam-online.de, open until 8pm on Wednesdays). The Museum of Decorative Arts is situated in a building designed by Richard Meier. The Museum fur Angewandte Kunst in Villa Metzler from 1803. Well-known is the Ernst May-Haus from 1925 - 1930, at the time part of the Neues Frankfurt building programme. See also Hans Hollein's Museum of Modern Art (www.mmk-frankfurt.de). Finally, IG Farben Offices (Peter Behrens), Schirn kunsthalle, Gateway Tower (O.M. Ungers), Schillerhaus (Leon Wohlhage Wernik) and the Commerzbank (Norman Foster) are worth visiting (www.greatbuildings.com)

A guided tour led by Michiel Vogelpoel of MAB will take place on Friday 17 October 2008 from around 11am to 5pm. We will look at the buildings in the Zeil shopping area, in the PalaisQuartier. The buildings were designed by Fuksas Architekten and KSP Engelmai Zimmermann and under development by construction fund MAB. Special features include the longest escalator in Europe.
