IBIS hotel Amsterdam Central Station
Description
On 3 November, the expansion of the IBIS hotel at Amsterdam Central Station was opened. With this extension connected to the rest of the hotel via a glass walkway, the hotel's capacity has been doubled to 360 rooms.
The project is interesting because the six-storey structure bridges tracks 2, 3 and 4 of the Central Station. A heavily insulated facade was used in combination with a vibration-free bearing on the foundation. In order not to interfere with train traffic, it was built on a so-called 'crash deck', from which the building was jacked down onto its foundations after completion of the second floor
