The board of KIVI Construction Section invites members to a structured and engaging afternoon with both substantive presentations and hands-on tours. The innovative and sustainable aspects of the renovation of the Klimatenkas as well as the Hortus' structural sustainability policy since 2012 will be highlighted, which is in line with the current focus on sustainability and technical innovation within the profession.

Programme overview:

13:30 - 14:00 | Walk-in and Coffee

Participants will be welcomed in the Laranja Room with coffee and tea there will be room for introductions between participants.

14:00 - 14:30 | Welcome and Presentation by Carlien Blok

The afternoon will be officially opened with a presentation by Carlien Blok, director of the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam. She talks briefly about (the history) of the Hortus and talks about the sustainability of the Klimatenkas.

14:30 - 15:00 | Technical Presentation by Krijn Braber

After Carlien Blok's introduction, Krijn Braber takes the floor. Krijn is the Hortus' technical advisor and will tell more about the technology and the process behind making the Intermediate Greenhouse project and the renovation of the Klimatenkas sustainable. His presentation will focus on the technical innovations, the challenges of integrating new technologies in a historic building, and the collaboration with the H'ART Museum, with a specific focus on the link with their Heat Cold Storage.

15:00 - 16:00 | Parallel Guided Tours Klimatenkas and vankunstnaarkas

Tour 1: Klimatenkas: Structural Engineers

Led by Carlien Blok and Remco Spigt, construction project manager, the structural engineers will be given a guided tour of the Klimatenkas. During this tour, key aspects of the renovation will be highlighted, including the installation of the ETFE roof, double glazing, the waterfall engine room and the protection of the desert greenhouse.

Tour 2: vankunstnaarkas: Mechanical Engineers

Krijn Braber will provide a guided tour for mechanical engineers with a special focus on the link with the H'ART Museum's CHP system. This tour offers insight into how the museum's surplus heat is used to heat the Hortus' greenhouses and Victoria Pond. It includes a look at the installation room at the Hortus.

16:00 - 17:00 | Networking drinks

The afternoon will end with drinks in the Laranja room. This is an informal opportunity to talk about the presentations and tours, and to exchange experiences and ideas with other professionals.

Cost: 20 Euro for KIVI members and 30 Euro for non-members (including coffee with something tasty and a drink and snack afterwards).

As it is a construction site, it is requested to bring your own construction shoes if you have them, otherwise please put on sturdy shoes. Further PPEs will be provided.
