New Babylon in The Hague
Description
In cooperation with and thanks to the building consortium Boele& van Eesteren/Ballast Nedam Speciale Projecten, the board of the Construction Section of KIVI NIRIA invites you to take part in the excursion to the New Babylon project under construction in The Hague on Tuesday 15 November 2011.
Built in 1978 and then developed by MAB and designed by Architect Lucas Niemeijer, this complex is undergoing a huge metamorphosis and is now in its final phase. Meijer, van vanSchooten Architecten from Amsterdam, transformed the project on behalf of developer Fortress.
What will New Babylon look like? Unrecognisable, that much is certain. Yet some parts of Babylon will be preserved. They will be playfully visible through vistas in the outer façade. Inside, the introverted architectural style of the past will give way to light, space and transparency. There will be open courtyard gardens, floating connections and overhanging balustrades. From almost any position, there will be a view of the building's multifaceted activities. On the outside, too, the project is transforming and New Babylon will be iconic for the city. Both up close and from a great distance. Two imposing residential and working towers (100 and 140 metres) will be added, giving The Hague an impressive new skyline. The second residential tower is almost at height
For a maximum of 30 participants, the programme on Tuesday 15 November 2011 is:
