Description

The new Orion Education Building, together with the existing Forum Education Building, meets the spatial needs of modern and constantly evolving university education.
Orion is a sustainable, flexible and sober building, but with architectural allure.
The building's flexibility is recognisable in the multifunctionally designed practical rooms, which make up 40% of the building. But also in the large auditorium, which can be transformed into six smaller rooms with flexible walls.
It is an energy-efficient building, in which materials have been reused. The building has a GreenCalc+ environmental index of no less than 480. Intelligent use was made of the shape and orientation of the building in relation to the sun, in combination with a façade design in which the sun provides the building with optimal daylight but does not heat it up.
A newly developed smart floor with BKA was used in the laboratory areas: a cast-in-place ribbed floor, in which perforated steel profiled sheets are fitted between the ribs (1.8 metres apart) on the underside. This not only contributes to the acoustics of the space, but also provides heat exchange from the floor to the space below.
An atrium is used within the climate design, providing a climate buffer for the surrounding spaces. The plant rooms are housed in three layers of the building.
In terms of architecture, spatial and structural design, climate concept and sustainability, Orion is a successful project that invites you to come and take a closer look.
