Only military personnel are trained in defence technology. All other engineers wishing to work in the defence sector must familiarise themselves independently with the specific aspects and the complex network involved. These include political oversight, confidentiality and ethical dilemmas. For those unfamiliar with the sector, this is a difficult and often time-consuming task.

A comprehensive overview and network in six days of lectures and eight site visits

KIVI Defence & Security organises this course to quickly familiarise engineers with the specific aspects of defence technology and working in the sector. The topics range from highly advanced technology, the structure and role of the various organisations and political oversight, to the procurement of equipment, innovation and logistical aspects. The course also covers the relationship between the Ministry of Defence and industry, Europe and the wider world. Finally, the course is not limited to objective facts and regulations, but also addresses topics of key importance to defence, such as security and ethics. Differences of opinion within the sector are also discussed, with ample opportunity for debate and discussion.

The theoretical part of the course is spread over six days, organised over a two-month period at venues including the KIVI building in The Hague and the Kromhout barracks in Utrecht. The approximately eight practical days then take place once a month.
