Description

Museum Louwman, a unique collection of cars from the early 19th century to experiments for the future. Not just cars and carriages but much more.... A must-see for everyone!

In the centre of The Hague is the Haagse Bos, a beautiful park-like area with footpaths through lush vegetation with picturesque watercourses. There, next to Huis ten Bosch is the Museum Louwman where a huge collection of means of transport is brought together. Of carriages, motorbikes, but above all cars. The museum building is like a palace set majestically in the wooded surroundings. Inside, high halls where showpieces are displayed and a corridor system where the development of transport in fine automobiles can be followed in timeline. And that's not all! There are also halls with exhibitions of utensils related to the culture surrounding the car: porcelain with appropriate decoration, posters in Art Deco for announcements of new models or car races. At the heart of the museum, a life-size village centre has been recreated with residential houses, café, grocery shop, hairdresser and, of course, a garage. On this square, our programme starts with a lunch of soup, sandwiches with luxury fillings a croquette, fruit and milk or fresh orange juice.

To the museum or from the museum to home can be done in different ways. You can take your own transport to the museum and park your car in the museum's very spacious car park (free of charge). You can also take the train to Central Station and from there take the bus in direct connection to the museum. For those who also want to enjoy the Haagse Bos, a walking map is available for a direct forest walk station - museum (about 45 minutes' walk). Alternatively, train passengers with a train chip card can rent a bicycle at the station and use it to cycle the same route through the forest (20 minutes cycling). A number of dining/dining tips are also available for participants who wish to do so.

Our programme:
- After our lunch on the village square, the guide will lead us through the museum along the history and discuss the distinctive steps in the development of the car through the special automobiles. Major brands like Rolls Royce and Ferrari have their own rooms. As a change from the cars, the guide pays attention to the exhibitions, of which the room with man-sized Jugendstil prints is a highlight.
- After the guided tour, we go to the Walter Owen Bentley room where Jan Wouters, an expert from Helmonds' Automotive Campus, gives a presentation on the developments in the electrification of the powertrain, the renewed focus on hydrogen applications, but also on the lightning-fast developments in combustion engines fuelled by the electric car. The various forms of autonomous driving are also discussed. There will be a glimpse into the future with a nod to the past.
- at the end of this programme, there will be plenty of time for you to take another close look at showpieces or one of the exhibitions of your interest, have refreshments at the café in the main hall and browse through the shop.
