The defence industry in the Netherlands
Description
What is the state of affairs when it comes to the defence industry in the Netherlands and where are the short- and long-term opportunities? The government is a key player in answering these questions in this industry sector. Last year, during the Industry Gate, the former state secretary of the Ministry of Defence indicated that the government should play more the role of launching customer when it comes to products originating from the Dutch defence industry.
The Defence Industry Strategy was drawn up by the Ministry of Defence and EZ in 2007. This document in which innovation choices are made and processes are established will serve as a starting point for the discussion. The Explorations presented this year will also be discussed. And of course the possible consequences of this in the coalition agreement.
The focus of the debate will be on opportunities for the future and how these can be facilitated. This will certainly include the following issues:
- What is the importance of developing highly advanced technology for defence in the Netherlands?
- What is the state of our technology, export and employment?
- Is the current business model of the defence cluster optimal for development, spin-off and export?
