Theatre performance Anthony Fokker
Description
Anthony Fokker (1890 - 1939) became the pioneering symbol of Dutch aviation. An improbably dramatic life story set on the turbulent cradle of international aviation at the beginning of the 20th century.
Especially in the period around the First World War, he played a leading role in the development of aviation technology for defence purposes.
On Queen's Day 1911, he made the famous circle around Haarlem's St. BAVO church in his 'Spin'. During WW1, he quickly became a leading aircraft manufacturer in Germany. The famous German fighter pilot Manfred van Richthoven, better known as the Red Baron, scored his victories in a red-painted Fokker 3-decker. On his return to the Netherlands (1919), Anthony Fokker became the hero of the press and public during the Eerste Luchtvaart Tentoonstelling Amsterdam (ELTA). His factory in Amsterdam-Noord soon became the leading aircraft factory in the Netherlands.
Anthony Fokker himself spread his wings internationally to America. He became the world's largest aircraft manufacturer in the late 1920s, until his companies were acquired in the years following the 1929 stock market crisis. In the following years, he became the main importer of American aircraft into Europe. He dies at the start of World War 2 in December 1939 in New York
