Visit Naval Station (DMI)
29 visitors - both KIVI and non-KIVI members - braved the distance and still cutting wind to visit the Material Maintenance Directorate, better known as the Naval Maintenance Company. That company is responsible for the maintenance of Dutch and Belgian naval vessels. After an inspiring explanation of the DMI, a tour of the port of Den Helder was made, which included a visit to the offshore ships. A delicious "blue bite" was followed by the tour of the DMI, to the covered dock, the ship lift with submarines and various workshops, among others. All in all, an interesting, educational and enjoyable day.
Visit to (subject to change): covered dock, ship lift and dock, workshops.
As an extra, a tour of the port and a lesson on how the Navy now operates.
