Politics and DV technology workshop
Meeting for KIVI Defence and Security members only
Description
Only for members of KIVI Defence and Security
------------------------------------------------
It is of great importance to bring factual information on defence and security technology more strongly to the attention of politicians. A role for KIVI in this respect fits perfectly with the association's objectives. The expertise of KIVI's members can help give the political debate a more factual basis.
The most logical moment for KIVI is to contribute after the minister has informed the House. This is a clear step in the democratic process for important decisions. Informing MPs and political groups, organising meetings, publishing facts are opportunities to contribute to the debate.
Through our cooperation in the EDTA context and with EURODEFENSE, there are similar opportunities at the European level.
In recent years, we have already commented on the defence memorandum and on the European Commission's Communication on Defence Industry. Of the nine recommendations on the latter document, five have been adopted almost verbatim by the European Council. A short time ago, we organised a KIVI meeting on technical measures against piracy and maritime piracy prior to the parliamentary debate. Also, the annual Kooy symposium almost always contributes to the political debate, such as this year on Missile Defence.
To make this activity more structured and active, we would like to involve you as a member of the Defence and Security Section.
Topics for discussion are:
1. What decisions, documents and public debates do we comment on,
2. How do we collect and assess responses,
3. In what ways can we best approach MPs and other players,
4. When do we provide written responses, and when do we organise a workshop or activity.
5. Who among you are willing and able to play a role in this
