The Politics and DV Engineering working group analyses current political developments in the defence sector. It provides independent facts and interpretation from the technological knowledge and experience of engineers.

It is regularly published in the media that the Netherlands and allies are supplying equipment to Ukraine in support in the war with the Russian Federation. The exact nature and extent of these deliveries is not public. However, some deliveries have been publicised, such as MANPADs, helmets, armoured vehicles and even armoured howitzers. Donated assets are partly financially compensated from the European Peace Facility (EPF).

These supplies do not involve newly procured systems, but are drawn from Defence's available equipment and stocks. Stocks that, according to the coalition agreement and other publications, are under pressure anyway. Acquisition procedures, however, are syrupy and lengthy, while industry will not be able to deliver quickly due to greatly increased demand. This could put further pressure on Defence readiness.

Without wishing to detract in any way from the usefulness and necessity of these supplies, the politics and technology working group of the Defence and Security Department has suggested some questions on the subject to the House of Representatives. Follow this link for details.
