The DV department wrote a KIVI position paper in response to the Defence Paper 2022 and the upcoming decision-making on replacement of submarines and frigates for the Royal Navy.

The Science, Technology and Society Council (RWTM) of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI) analyses developments in politics and society. On this basis, it provides facts and interpretation from the technological knowledge and experience of engineers and publishes Position Papers, among other things. The paper to which this post refers was prepared by our Defence and Security Department (DV) in cooperation with the RWTM. The content covers technological or related aspects only.

We draw your attention to the position paper on naval construction, in which we emphasise the importance of a high-tech sector for a high-tech, labour-intensive and innovative armed forces and provide ten recommendations for policy on the naval construction sector in the Netherlands, including the construction of submarines.

You can find the paper on the website via this link or directly.
