In a Biobased Economy, biomass is used as the basic raw material for energy, chemicals, plastics and fuels. This economy plays an important role within the circular economy and represents a comprehensive and joint challenge for governments, companies and knowledge institutions. It offers new opportunities for business and has the potential to become one of the main pillars of the national economy. Especially since the Netherlands has a strong position in chemistry, agrofood and logistics, the biobased economy offers a pathway through which the Netherlands can achieve green growth.

The Dutch Process Technologists (NPT) department of KIVI and KNCV looks forward to inviting you to our upcoming webinar on the theme"Biobased green chemistry: flagship projects and scale-ups".

We would like to share with you the insights and experiences of the following three speakers:

  1. Prof Dr Gert-Jan Gruter of Avantium - "Non food sugars for our future plastics"

Avantium is a pioneer in the emerging industry of renewable and sustainable chemistry. Avantium is an innovation-driven company dedicated to developing and commercialising breakthrough technologies to produce chemicals from renewable resources and circular plastic materials used for a variety of consumer products.

  1. Dr Panos Kouris, MSc. Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder Vertoro - "A Holistic biorefinery company: Creating more value by doing less"

Vertoro is a capital and university-backed chemical startup with an innovative and protected approach to converting lignin and lignocellulosic biomass into a wide range of bio-based chemicals, materials and fuels through a platform approach.

  1. Dr Wouter Huijgen, Sr. scientist biorefinery Cosun - "Biorefinery of agri-food residues. Case study: versatile galactaric acid from sugar beet pulp"

A strategic ambition of Royal Cosun is to create biobased solutions in line with contemporary societal trends and the growing demand for sustainable ingredients. Cosun is active in all phases, from development to production and marketing of innovative functional additives based on Cosun's vegetable raw materials.

During this webinar, we will use 3 case studies to discuss developments within biobased chemistry and the role sustainable innovations play in it. By discussing case studies, we also hope to explore opportunities for collaboration and growth within this exciting field.

To participate , please register via the KIVI website. You will receive the participation link upon registration.

We look forward to welcoming you to our webinar and working together towards a more sustainable future!

NB: Vertoro's presentation is in English, the other two presentations are in Dutch.
