NPT Café East
On one of the first summer days of the year 2017, the3rd edition of the NPT Café Oost took place in the warm salon of the Concordia theatre on the Oude Markt in Enschede. At this event, some 25 process technologists and process technologists-to-be came together for an educational and at the same time convivial evening.
The theme of the evening was 'Biomass' and started with two lectures by local companies in this growing sector. It was kicked off by Robbie Venderbosch of BTG Biomass Technology Group, who talked about the history of BTG, BTL and Empyro (the commercial-scale pyrolysis plant in Hengelo); and outlined his vision of the future of biomass as a substitute for fossil fuels. Robbie also showed, what BTG believes are other useful applications for biomass, such as bitumen for roofing and component of Trespa laminate boards.
Next to speak was Herman Klein Teeselink, owner of HoSt. Herman told those present about the various projects HoSt is currently carrying out. These range from generating energy from agricultural waste for a farm through incineration or fermentation, to generating methane and food-gradeCO2 on an industrial scale from various waste streams. He also compared various energy carriers to conclude that natural gas is relatively expensive and it is also very interesting economically to switch to more sustainable solutions. Gerardo van den Hout concluded the formal part of the evening by sharing his experiences as a process technologist at HoSt. Gerardo demonstrated to problems, which HoSt cleverly solved in a practical way.
Subsequently, the various impressions gained from the lectures could be discussed at length over a drink at café SamSam during the closing networking drinks.
We also hope to welcome you to the next edition of the NPT Café Oost on 12 October!
