Description

Polymers have become an integral part of Western society. The tremendous growth in the application of polymers could only come about after the understanding of composition, properties and production methods was sufficiently developed. The use of polymers has brought tremendous benefits to society, but unfortunately the unbridled use of polymers also has negative aspects.

After rubber represented a very significant economic importance via vulcanisation, the role of synthetic polymers has become bigger and bigger. Through the fundamental work of Baekeland, Staudinger, Ziegler, Natta, Carothers and many others, polymer chemistry has moved into continuous acceleration.

During the symposium, we will look back at their tremendous contributions and also focus on two industrial applications (fibres & packaging). The importance of R&D is obvious, but how R&D within university, industry and applied research institutions interlocked is also the subject of one of the lectures at the symposium.
New answers will be needed to existing and future societal questions. History can help us come to a better understanding.

We would like to invite those interested in the developmental progress of polymer chemistry to register for this symposium.
