A knowledge centre for making the chemical industry more sustainable is to emerge at Chemelot in Geleen. It should eventually be good for a hundred 'high-quality' jobs.
The four parties involved in the project have expressed this intention. They are Maastricht University, TNO, the Brightlands Chemelot Campus and Sitech Services, which facilitates the companies at the chemical complex in Geleen.
Turnaround
The intention is for the knowledge centre to contribute to the development of applications and techniques that will help the chemical industry to realise its sustainability and safety goals. The centre has been given the working name Brightlands Sustainable Technology Center (BSTC) and will specifically seek answers to the question of how the chemical industry can manage the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
