30 years of wind power in Northeast Polder
Description
Plans for a wind farm on the Westermeerdijk in the Northeast Polder were shaped in 1984. In 1987, the first farm, 25 turbines with a capacity of 300 kW was commissioned. Currently, the finishing touches are being made to the new wind farms on the Wester and Zuidermeerdijk; a total of 27 turbines with a capacity of 7.5 MW each. One of these turbines generates as much energy as the entire wind farm of 30 years ago!
In addition, the 'wet' part of the Urk wind farm, in the IJsselmeer, is still under construction. This will house 48 turbines with a capacity of 3.2 MW each. This will create a unique wind farm, operated by three owners, which - so far - is the largest in the Netherlands.
The Electrical Engineering Department and the Northern Region are organising an excursion to this wind power plant on Monday 14 September; so far the largest in the Netherlands.
Lectures will be given by ir. Guido Bakema (RWE) and dr.ir. Bart Ummels (Ventolines) respectively on the development of this wind farm and the electrical engineering ins-and-outs of its connection. While also about the construction of these 'wind giants' will be explained with slides and film.
After these lectures, we will view the site, including the 110 kV connection and switching station at the Westermeerdijk from the bus, and return for a concluding discussion, during which you will also be offered a heart treat
no later than 13.00 Departure bus from NS station Zwolle (Zuidzijde)
no later than 13.40 Departure bus from car park on the Baan in Ens
14.00 Lecture by ir. Guido Bakema (RWE)
14.45 Lecture by dr.ir. Bart Ummels (Ventolines)
15.30 h Visitation of the site from the bus
16.45 h Closing discussion during which you will be offered a heart refreshment
17.30 h Departure by bus back, past Ens to Zwolle NS railway station.
In connection with the works, safety requirements and the time available, it has been decided to transport participants by bus. This bus will depart from Zwolle NS station at 13.00; participants from the North can park on the Baan in Ens, where the bus will pick them up at 13.40.
